Why I Love Woopra? A Review of the Revolutionary Web Analytics Tool!

Woopra is a new entrant to the sprawling array of web analytics tools, led at the front by Google Analytics. Several innovative analytics tools are already there, such as Crazy Egg, with their click heat map overlay, Sitemeter, Feedjit, and Statcounter with live analytics, etc. But I couldn’t find one better-equipped than Woopra. Here we will see Woopra's features through various screenshots. Please click on the screenshot to enlarge. To learn more about web & digital data analytics, visit ZoomOwl.

Woopra Software Main Page

Woopra is currently in its Beta stage, and provides free site traffic analytics. Right now, the sites allowed should not have more than ten thousand visits daily. The program doesn’t simply count any visit above that limit. Also, signing up on Woopra may well take a long time to wait, since they are clogged with new sign ups. I recently got approved by them for Beta testing.

Woopra is loaded with features, not found in normal analytics tools. Unlike other analytics tools, Woopra can give you analytics from a standalone Java software on your system, as well as online. The standalone software feature is perhaps the first among the traffic analytics tools. The interface is mesmerizing and extremely quick. Thanks to Java. The download required is only about 4MB, and you need the latest Java.

Feature List

I will go through the major features. On the dashboard, Woopra gives you the daily visits, pages on the site visited, number of times each page is visited, search queries and search engines, world map to know the location of each visit, and referral websites sending visits.

Its analytics tool is similar to any other, with all major statistics collected. Check out the screenshot. I have carefully hidden all my important traffic statistics with a deep blue shade, since it embarrasses me (;-))

Woopra gives live traffic analysis unlike Google Analytics. The desktop application alerts you every time a visitor comes, and gives details such as the visitor location, IP Address, referral path, search query, visitor’s actions, pages browsed, time spent, browser used, operating system, and screen resolution.

Location Map

Woopra has a wonderful map feature, which updates and blinks at the exact visitor location, whenever a visitor comes. The country and exact place are shown on the map, with the number of live visitors from that country. The map can be zoomed and moved about; also, it can be seen in full screen. Look at the screenshot below, taken when I myself visited CuteWriting.

You can tag your visitors. For instance, you can name him if your friend visits your site and you know his IP address and precise location. Once tagged, Woopra will recognize when the person comes again. This is a great way to track returning visitors and subscribers.

Woopra Live Chat

This is why I love Woopra the most. I can chat live with any of the visitors coming to my pages. Whenever a visitor comes to my site, the ‘start conversation' button on the visitor details list is activated. On clicking it, a direct connection can be established with the visitor and chat with him/her. Here are the screenshots of that, when I chatted with myself.

A week ago, I got the opportunity to chat with a lady from Croatia through Woopra. Watch out for me, I may some time chat with you too.

Event Notification

Another great feature is Event Notification. Within Woopra you can create be notified of certain events. For instance, if you wish to be notified when a visitor clicks on a particular link or advertisement on your site, create an event notification for that. You can target specific visitors or visitors with specific attributes like a common location or a particular browser.

Last version of Woopra had several bugs, which are fixed in this version. In the last one, chatting had a minor issue. I couldn’t initiate conversations with any of my visitors. But in this version, this is fixed. You can advertise your products directly on to Woopra desktop client interface. Please see the Woopra main screenshot at the top; you can see advertisements on the right-most side. Once this application is out, these advertisements will be highly popular and will get several thousands of impressions. On the whole, Woopra seems to be out to win.

  3. Awesome post. I havent heard of this analytics platform and will definitely introduce it to our client base. I have a question for you though. Does the system allow for historical processing of goal funnels? This is one of Google Analytics drawbacks, as you can not run a custom funnel for a page progression that you choose, from a previous point in time.

Again - Thanks for the review!

  4. Thanks for the comment.

In place of goal funnels, as you will read in the review itself, Woopra has a feature called event notification. Since I never used goal funnels in Analytics, I can't quite say how it compares to this. But the feature is basically thus: you start an event notification with any event such as ad click, click on external link, particular page on your site, visitor coming from particular location, browser, etc., and start the event. It has statistics which will show you which user acted according to this notification.

    I hope it answered. Thanks.

  5. Indeed, very good Review. Just started Woopra Myself. Got cut off at 10.000 visitors though, but has soem very cool features. Only had succes on one chat invitation though. People are pretty weary of that blue popup, probably think it's spam

  6. Hi, MS Analytics, thanks for the comment. Yes indeed that 10k limit is troubling. About the chat, I had a few success chatting with few of my visitors, though most as you say fear it is spam, hehe!

Power of Short Sentences

Post dedicated to Thomas Hardy (see History Today below). There are monster sentences like the one you encounter as the first paragraph of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens . One of my friends, whom I am getting equipped for his IELTS ( what is this? ), told me that the examination recommends long sentences. In writing classes also, I guess it’s longer sentences most tutors promote. But indubitably shorter sentences are more powerful . We will see why. Take a long sentence for instance: Tom Cruise, one of the finest actors in the whole world, is perhaps the most powerful celebrity to exist ever according to Time Magazine, but many people still dispute this fact and point out that there are more powerful and popular actors than Cruise, though they were unsuccessful in providing the total number of fans, who liked the films of those actors. This is a long sentence and it is very confusing . Though it has a logical construction and conveys a meaning, it falters in many occasions and seems

Creative Writing: Crafting Characters With Emotional Appeal in Mind

When you read the greatest fiction works ever, have you ever asked what was so compelling about them that you not only kept reading it, but you ended up reading all other major works of the writer? It may well be because the writer touched your emotional quotient quite a bit. Every reader has a unique taste . Some like to read suspense thrillers , some tender love stories, and some others dark horror and bloodshed stories . That’s why there are all sorts of genres out there. When a writer gives you what exactly you want, you will keep reading. Here we come to the emotional appeal. Character Imperfection Perfect characters may not always be the upshot of a writer’s deliberation. It may well be due to ignorance . Usually the upcoming writers take it for granted that if they create perfect characters, they will be able to garner a bigger audience . It is not true. You have to ask yourself what a character would do in a particular situation. Perfect characters—perfect gunmen, perfect

Another Tiny List of Confusables

Earlier, you may remember we published a list of confusable words . Here we are again, with such a list of words. Abjure/Adjure: Abjure means "to formally renounce (give up) something" such as a position. Adjure on the other hand means 'to appeal to' or 'solemnly order'. The governor decided to abjure his position due to political pressure. Normally, adjuring to the subordinates doesn't give many results. Amount/Number: Use amount when you have uncountable subject. Use number when it is countable. The amount of love one gets depends on the number of friends one has. Appraise/Apprise: Appraise is the word applied to quantitative evaluation of something. Apprise means 'communicate' or 'inform'. Appraising diamonds is the work of an expert. Joe apprised me of the schedule of events. Attorney/Lawyer/Solicitor: These terms are highly misinterpreted and confused by many people. Let me clarify. In the US, an attorney is any member
