Internal Link Building for Traffic Growth

Bloggers know well the importance of traffic building to their pages. Normally, when a blogger has a number of links incoming to his blog, his PageRank goes up. And this rise in PageRank causes the newer pages of the blog be indexed faster and rank higher in search results even without enough incoming links. Still, there are pages that get very high traffic on your blog, and those which don’t get enough traffic. We will see why.

The main reason why a page within your blog doesn’t get enough traffic may be the lack of enough incoming links. Every blogger realizes pages in his blog that they rate as their masterpieces. They will repeatedly link to these pages from their newer posts. This sort of frenzied internal link building causes these pages to rise high in search results.

At the same time, there are standalone pages within your blog that gets linked from no other post. These pages lurk at the very bottom of traffic stats with very few daily visits. Here is what you should do to build links to these internal pages. Building strong internal blog links is very important in terms of SEO.

The Procedure

1. Find Traffic Stats of All Pages

Fire up your analytics application and find out which pages get the highest traffic and which the lowest. You have to concentrate on the higher to lower basis.

2. Find Categories

Now, you have to categorize the pages that get highest and lowest traffic according to the topic and keywords. For instance, there may be two pages in your blog related to ‘traveling to Europe’, one getting the highest traffic and the other the lowest. Group such posts together into a list.

3. Rewrite High Traffic Pages

Now, rewrite the high traffic pages, and put a link out to the low traffic page within the same category. This will cause the low traffic pages get some robust inlinks. Make sure you specify appropriate anchor text. These links, being high PR, causes a rise in PageRank of the low traffic page as well as a growth in its traffic.

4. Eliminate Direct Reciprocal Links

If you have direct reciprocal links in between these pages, it is best to eliminate it. Check the low traffic page if it links to the high traffic one, and remove it or make it NoFollow. Though reciprocal links carry some weight in search results, its importance is low; several reciprocal links may even cause traffic penalization. So, keep reciprocal links to a minimum.

Conclusion

Editing past posts is a good indication of professional blogging. In my post series on professional blogging, I should have included this as an important point. Have a very good link structure, so that the search bots can easily get to the relevant posts on your blog. This will greatly improve the natural search traffic of your site. When you create new pages, look at the low traffic pages and find appropriate ones to link to, without linking only to those masterpiece pages.

  1. does building too many links in less time also have a negative impact on the rankings? and do i have to build links to internal pages also to get their ranking high? i have a blog at http://www.syedtaha.com which ranks 2. but i am unable to increase the rank of internal pages.

  2. Yes indeed. But that is not much important in on-page SEO. Because here, we will only interlink internal pages. Your blog looks rather new. Concentrate now on off-page SEO such as link building. Look at my articles on link building to know more.

  3. I have seen your SEO topic on cute writing. its amazing and its got a pagerank which i just cant imagine.lol
i have a question. I have enabled tags which are getting a higher page rank than the original posts. do i make the tags no follow. what i thought is my posts are being treated as duplicate content so they are not being indexed. and this must be because of the tags. is that possible?

  4. No, Free Links Exchange, the page in question doesn't have a PR. It's purely because the labels (tags) in Blogger are disallowed from search with robots.txt file. So this page: http://cutewriting.blogspot.com/search/label/SEO is not in Google search index.

This is the case with Blogger. In your WordPress blog, tags may be indexed by search engines. And I saw it is the case with your blog. I do recommend you make tags nofollow. There is rumor that label pages and archive pages cause duplication of content.

You may disallow the label pages and archives with robots.txt file in your blog.

In order to get faster indexing of your newer pages, what you can do is submit a sitemap to Google at Google webmaster tools. Then do quite a bit of social bookmarking through various dofollow social bookmark sites like Digg, and try to get some more links incoming to your newer posts. If you have more doubts, just put them into a questionnaire and send me through contact form. We can make a post on it.

    Thanks
    Lenin

Power of Short Sentences

Post dedicated to Thomas Hardy (see History Today below). There are monster sentences like the one you encounter as the first paragraph of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens . One of my friends, whom I am getting equipped for his IELTS ( what is this? ), told me that the examination recommends long sentences. In writing classes also, I guess it’s longer sentences most tutors promote. But indubitably shorter sentences are more powerful . We will see why. Take a long sentence for instance: Tom Cruise, one of the finest actors in the whole world, is perhaps the most powerful celebrity to exist ever according to Time Magazine, but many people still dispute this fact and point out that there are more powerful and popular actors than Cruise, though they were unsuccessful in providing the total number of fans, who liked the films of those actors. This is a long sentence and it is very confusing . Though it has a logical construction and conveys a meaning, it falters in many occasions and seems

Creative Writing: Crafting Characters With Emotional Appeal in Mind

When you read the greatest fiction works ever, have you ever asked what was so compelling about them that you not only kept reading it, but you ended up reading all other major works of the writer? It may well be because the writer touched your emotional quotient quite a bit. Every reader has a unique taste . Some like to read suspense thrillers , some tender love stories, and some others dark horror and bloodshed stories . That’s why there are all sorts of genres out there. When a writer gives you what exactly you want, you will keep reading. Here we come to the emotional appeal. Character Imperfection Perfect characters may not always be the upshot of a writer’s deliberation. It may well be due to ignorance . Usually the upcoming writers take it for granted that if they create perfect characters, they will be able to garner a bigger audience . It is not true. You have to ask yourself what a character would do in a particular situation. Perfect characters—perfect gunmen, perfect

Another Tiny List of Confusables

Earlier, you may remember we published a list of confusable words . Here we are again, with such a list of words. Abjure/Adjure: Abjure means "to formally renounce (give up) something" such as a position. Adjure on the other hand means 'to appeal to' or 'solemnly order'. The governor decided to abjure his position due to political pressure. Normally, adjuring to the subordinates doesn't give many results. Amount/Number: Use amount when you have uncountable subject. Use number when it is countable. The amount of love one gets depends on the number of friends one has. Appraise/Apprise: Appraise is the word applied to quantitative evaluation of something. Apprise means 'communicate' or 'inform'. Appraising diamonds is the work of an expert. Joe apprised me of the schedule of events. Attorney/Lawyer/Solicitor: These terms are highly misinterpreted and confused by many people. Let me clarify. In the US, an attorney is any member
