CuteWriting Turns One Year Old!

This blog was born on the March 12th of 2008. Today, we are celebrating the first birthday of the blog. So far, CuteWriting has gone through several landmarks. Within the first few months, it was regarded to be one of the best writing-related blogs out there. Now, CW also deals with several different topics and answers reader questions. The diversification was necessary as we found out that most of the readers of this blog originally wanted posts on Blogging tips and search engine optimization. Creative writing can only make a tiny part of the blog now. Initial work on creating quality content has proved successful as CW got several hundreds of incoming links to various posts and testimonials and positive reviews from several websites. Now, the blog ranks high in search engines for many of its posts. We are vowed to publish only useful entries for our readers (don't take care of the sponsored entries, which are separately labeled and are maintained only for monetization). ...

Blog Notification: What Happened Last Week?

By now, all my honest readers have seen that there have been no updates since the nineteenth; here is what happened. It was quite a normal day, the nineteenth of this month. I rather felt that nothing was wrong until I discovered a horrible thing when I started my computer. I had lost all of my software and important blogging data! I use four partitions on my system to store software and data. They are differentiated for the Operating System, all of the software, some entertainment stuff, and an emergency backup/crash drive. For the time being, let me tell you the sad state of the crash drive; it was full with some downloads, movies, and some of the software setup files. All these partitions are on two hard drives—The OS and entertainment stuff partition on the first, and software and crash drive on the second. The software partition on the second drive had failed overnight, taking with it all of what it contained. There were quite a few bad sectors, which caused it not be reco...

Britney Spears to Start Blogging and Tweeting!

This has been a recent report by TechCrunch that happened to appeal my attention. Britney Spears has not only started her website with blog, BritneySpears.com , but also signed up on Twitter [ See why Twitter is important ]. It’s pretty fascinating to see quite a lot of non-techie celebrities, film stars, pop stars, writers, etc., moving to the Internet, embracing this wonderful new medium of communication. Here are quite a few: Tom Cruise: tomcruise.com Amitabh Bachchan: Blogs.Bigadda.com/ab Aamir Khan: Aamirkhan.com Though not many of the Hollywoodders started their own sites or blogs, it seems Bollywood stars are hard at it. I heard that several of Bollywooders have their own blogs. Also, celebrity blogs tend to get astounding amount of traffic within pretty short span of time; thanks to their mass appeal! It’s good to see that they don’t need to monetize their sites. Special Notification Can you believe a power failure that lasts six hours? That’s what happened here, ...

Post Number 200

Dear readers, today you are reading the 200th post in CuteWriting , the creative writing help blog. I thank all those who supported me, who linked to my posts, who commented on this blog, who dugg the posts I submitted to various social media communities, and who befriended me on various social networks and social media groups. Readers, without your participation and grace, I wouldn’t have reached this level. Until recently, I had other people to submit my posts to various social media systems, and manage my social networks. But now on, I am taking up the task upon myself. I have found that most of my social media profiles are studded with only posts from CuteWriting. I haven’t unearthed and submitted the best posts from my readers, other bloggers. I will do so in the coming days. Also, due to pure promotional activities on this blog, I almost forgot to read the blogs of several of my readers. I want to do that now and link out to those posts that have good content. Submit your U...

Commenting on Blogs: Are You Making Your Mark or Marring It?

Yesterday night, Ms Judith posted this comment on my blog post on using colons correctly in writing : "Colon cleanse, the importance of liver detoxification, and the need for multi-vitamins, plus much more. There are choices on the products and a seasonalcolon cleanse and liver cleanse is necessary. We do not get the nutrients we need in our food anymore." Ms Judith placed a link to her site on colon cleanser as well . Today, another person, who calls himself (or herself) ‘Slang Words’ commented on my post on popular idioms and usages : “Well thanks for this wonderful to learn more slangs I want to recommend a good collection of Slang Dictionaries presents you with a vast array of slang words and expressions, ranging from older and internationally recognized slangs to modern day coinages, colloquialisms, vulgarities and many other substandard usages of the English language.” He also placed a link back to his slang words site, with that anchor text, ruthlessly . I reje...

Microblogging From Within Your Blog

Recently, with the advent of Twitter, Jaiku (whom Google acquired ), Plurk, etc., microblogging is a sensation . A microblog is way of updating your readers on what's current about you ; usually these updates are 150-character long. Everyone starts their day's schedule with Twitter opened and occasionally post a sentence as to what they are doing presently, updating their followers. Twitter continues to explode in popularity, and even many big social networks are gawking at the Twitter secret. Here we will check out a simpler way of microblogging-that through your own blog . Story of the Theme Redesign and Blogger W3C Validation

This is a blog notification post. I have made changes to the blog’s design. Here is how… W3C Valid Template I have brought back the WP Premium theme, which I had put up to commemorate the hundredth post on the first of this month. But there are a lot of changes to it now. Just go ahead and try to validate my blog in W3C Validator . You will find there are almost 45 errors in toto on the home page, in place of nearly 600 errors when I had put up the template last time. It seems that there is no such thing as W3C valid Blogger Template . I was at work testing this template and removing as many errors as possible from it . Now, the retained 45 are due to Blogger’s internal rendering software , which doesn’t automatically correct issues like unencoded ampersand (‘&’ not being displayed as ‘&’ which is the standard XHTML recommendation for it). With these errors retained, there is no point in using the Strict dtd for the template. It was a really entertaining experience to fix t...

Post Number. One Hundred in CuteWriting: New Design!

Dear readers, in CuteWriting it’s celebration time . The post you are reading is the hundredth one here . As a feast for you all, here is the completely revamped, professional WordPress-ish template . Now the blog will load a lot faster and work more efficiently. The Template First, let me thank Mr. R Bhavesh , for this elegant design, originally crafted for WordPress. The team at eBlogTemplates has modified the theme to be used as a Blogspot template . Thanks to them for the great work. Despite a beautiful professional design, surprisingly, the template is available completely free. I downloaded it yesterday, and made all the necessary tweaks for the best performance (Later did the W3C validation tweaks) . The Design The template is simple and elegan t, the best choice for those cluttered, unreadable, slow-loading, ads-rich blogs. The major reason why I love this design is its clean, professional appearance . It reminds me of such beautiful websites as A List Apart , PublicLiteratur...
